Frequently Asked Questions
All our Hydra Cream Base products share the same basic structure. They have all been developed to resemble the skin's dermal membrane structure in both their physical makeup and chemical composition. The ingredients are adapted to the chemical composition of the skin, and the special formulation creates a lamellar structure that biologically mimics the skin. This leads to better absorption of the active ingredients and the preservation of the protective barrier.
However, they differ from one another in the quantities of the respective active ingredients in the formulation. The Hydra Cream Base Light Texture is the lightest version with the lowest viscosity - it is perfect for hydrating the skin - while the Hydra Cream Base Rich is the richest version, which nourishes and protects the skin the most with its lipid-rich formula.
The richer the formulation, the higher the concentration of nourishing oils, ceramides, butters, and moisturizing active ingredients, and the higher the viscosity. But whether Light, Creamy, or Rich, they all share the goal of preserving the delicate balance of the skin microbiome ecosystem and pampering the skin in a unique way.
Our Hydra Cream Bases can also be used on their own as skincare without a booster. The different active ingredient boosters complement the base care when the skin needs that little something extra.
The microbiological stability of cosmetics is a crucial factor for their shelf life and consumer safety. Preservatives prevent bacteria, fungi, and yeasts from multiplying, ensuring safe and long-lasting products.
However, conventional preservative systems such as parabens have rightly fallen out of favor in recent years. Other preservative systems listed in the Cosmetics Regulation are considered effective, but are significantly outdated and offer no benefits to the skin. While using approved preservatives is simple and cost-effective, we always consider the skincare benefits of each raw material, and the benefits of preservatives for the skin are very limited. Therefore, we do not use any preservatives listed in the Cosmetics Regulation, as we believe that approved preservatives are not beneficial to the skin and are more likely to disrupt the microbiome. To keep our skincare products stable and protected, we use sustainable pentylene glycol as a preservative, which is made from 100% bio-based carbon and approved by COSMOS (the certification for natural and organic cosmetics). It is produced using a patented process from a byproduct of ethically and responsibly grown sugarcane. Sustainable pentylene glycol protects the formulation while caring for the skin without drying it out.
Our products are therefore “preservative-free” according to the Cosmetics Regulation. We have decided to communicate this fact to inform consumers that we do not use conventional preservatives, such as parabens, thereby distinguishing ourselves from most products on the market.
